Patagonia features spectacular mountain peaks, expansive glaciers, estancias and turquoise lakes, and offers some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. For many travelers, this is one of the main reasons to visit South America. Patagonia covers the south of Argentina and Chile and is best experienced through the combination of both countries. It is an adventure playground in every respect, offering excellent hiking and trekking opportunities, horseback riding and unique terrain for exploration. Photographers will quickly know their memory cards too. There are endless possibilities to capture a beautiful scene. Spend your time on an Estancia in southern Argentina, discover your inner gaucho and explore it on horseback. Experience the dramatic sights of the Perito Moreno Glacier, hike through the mountains of El Chalten and cross the border into Chile, where you will be captivated by the Torres del Paine – the most majestic mountain in Patagonia. Walk and ride in this strange landscape or sit back and enjoy the views from your Hotub in your luxurious wooden cabin.

Famous for its spectacular panorama of bright emerald and turquoise lakes, whose surfaces reflect snow-capped volcanoes and sprawling forests, Chiles Lake District is a perfect picture. Gentle hills with hundreds of lakes and lagoons make the area impressive and perfect for hiking, trekking, sailing, fishing, horse riding, cycling and kayaking. Puerto Montt, in the southern Lake District of Chile, is the starting point for some of the most amazing cruises that run through the fjords and the hanging valleys of the Chilean glacier coast. And mystical Chile is a world of its own. The region is home to the indigenous Mapuche, Chile’s largest indigenous group. Our guests have the opportunity to sleep in Rukas (traditional Mapuche houses), taste their cuisine and experience their culture and hospitality up close. The Chilean Lake District surrounds the Argentine Lake District, making a visit to both regions an unforgettable journey for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Chilean Patagonia:

Neither on entry from a yellow fever area (often the neighboring states) nor on direct entry from Germany the proof of a valid yellow fever vaccine is currently prescribed by the authorities. However, it is recommended that you check your vaccination record and, if necessary, refresh the standard vaccines.

The official language is Spanish. Without knowledge of Spanish, freedom of movement in Patagonia is sometimes limited. Basic knowledge of the Spanish is very helpful, although many residents in the touristy places frequented English. In Chilean Patagonia, the Spanish language is sometimes very different and contains many special phrases and uses words of the Chilean aborigines.

To eat and drink

Argentine Patagonia: Argentines love good food and are known for good red wine and excellent beef. Chilean Patagonia: Typical examples of local cuisine are empanadas (pies with meat, poultry or fish and onions, eggs, raisins and olives), humitas (spiced corn paste rolled in corn leaves and cooked), cazuela de ave (soup with rice, vegetables, chicken and various herbs ), Bife a lo pobre (steak with french fries, fried onions and fried egg) and parrillada (a selection of grilled meats on the charcoal grill). Seafood is also excellent.

The Chileans and Argentines are down to earth nations. Their families, home and work are the most important to them. Although a little more restrained than other South Americans, you will find hospitality and helpfulness so you will feel comfortable.
