LODGES & LUXURIOUS ACCOMMODATION

Season / Weather / Climate

The climate in Peru is very different depending on the region, there is no general best travel time. Peru is located just south of the equator and is divided essentially into three regions and climatic zones, the coastal region (Costa), the mountainous region of the Andes (Sierra) and the tropical Amazon region (Selva).

The Andean region and the Amazon basin are best visited during the Peruvian winter. It starts in April / May to September (Andes) and December (Amazon). A visit to the coast is recommended from December to March – just the opposite. Because of the cold Humboldt stream and the Andes in the east, the central and southern coast of Peru is a barren desert in which it hardly rains. In the north, on the other hand, El Nino experiences some rainfall and temperatures of up to 35 ° C in the “summer months” between December and March. At Lima and south of it, the thermometer rarely climbs above 30 ° C. In the Peruvian “winter” of the months April to October, it is often cloudy and foggy at 15-20 ° C. In the Andean region of Peru, the climate is almost exactly the opposite. Here are the months of May to September, the best months of travel and it rains often in the Peruvian summer. While it usually has around 20 ° C during the day, the mercury column can turn down to well below 0 ° C at night. The snowfall limit is usually around 5,000 m altitude.

Also in the Amazon basin is the best time to travel in the Peruvian winter during the months of April to December. However, it rains much more frequently throughout the year.

To eat and drink

Just as different as the landscapes and the climate is the kitchen. It is very much regional, depending on whether you are on the coast, in the mountains or in the Amazon. For drinks, the Peruvians prefer corn drinks.

People

Diverse and multicultural – this is perhaps the best way to describe Peruvian society. Hospitality is high, but rural people are often a bit more reserved. The majority of the Peruvian population are Catholics (about 90%). The remaining 10% are distributed among a Protestant minority and other religions. In principle, there is freedom of belief in Peru. The people are believers and live their religion in various rites and customs. The history of the country has mixed many races in Peru, the Peruvian society today is diverse and multi-cultural. This one recognizes u.a. in over 1,000 different styles of music. The population of Peru is i.d.R. very hospitable, restrained in rural areas. One tends to tardiness (“Peruvian era”). Casual dress is accepted, but too liberal clothes belong to the beach.
