Gigantic rock walls tower up to the right and left, before and after you your rafting company in their rubber dinghies and every now and then you catch a glimpse of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas - rafting in the Zanskar River:

A fantastic mix of thrills and impressive scenic beauty.

Rafting in the Zanskar River

The Nubra valley, called a ldumra - translated flower garden - is a wonderful green oasis that more than lives up to its original name.

Rose trees, sea buckthorn, willow and tamarisk nestle along its lifeline: the Nubra River.

Best travel time for Ladakh

The best time for a trekking trip to Ladakh is the summer months June to September due to the altitude.

The time difference compared to Central European Time (CET) is +4 hours. During summer time, the time difference from Germany to Chile is +4 hours.

preparation

In order to be well prepared for the physical and psychological demands of trekking and to be able to enjoy the trip, a certain level of fitness is required. We recommend a preparatory training that meets the requirements of your planned trip.

Clothing and equipment

Depending on the trip, you may need special clothing. When purchasing, pay attention to a coordinated "multi-layer principle".

So you are prepared for all cases and can choose depending on the weather conditions. Whether special equipment is required depends on the particular trip and also on your personal preferences. This is discussed and clarified in detail before each trip.

Security and responsibility

Mountain climbing and trekking in certain areas must be approved by the Ministry of Tourism. But we always make sure that the organizers of an expedition comply with all regulations.

It is highly recommended not to trek alone; the health risks are very high in the higher areas.

It is also recommended to only use known routes, to stay in groups, to use only reputable agencies and guides, to obtain current information on the security situation before visiting remote areas. The mountain rescue system, if it exists, cannot be compared with European conditions.

Altitude sickness

Please do not underestimate the risks of altitude sickness when trekking (from approx. 3,000 m) and descend at the first signs (nausea, headache or shortness of breath). In the advanced stages of the disease, any help usually comes too late.

It should also be remembered that helicopter flights (rescue flights) cannot always be carried out in good time due to the weather and the time of day.

Language in Ladakh

Hindi and English are recognized as national languages. There are also around 20 other official languages.
