Galapagos weather

The climate in Ecuador is very different depending on the region. In general, you can travel to the country all year round, but a distinction is made between rainy and rainy seasons.

The driest months are June to September, while between December and April the heaviest downpours are mainly in the rainforest.


From December, January to May, June, tropical summer air temperatures predominate and the sea water is warm.

During this time, heavy rain showers are possible on the islands; however, this time period has the most days of sunshine. From June to November, December the air and water temperatures are rather cool.

With the Humboldt Current, subtropical weather fronts reach the Galapagos. Often dense clouds envelop the higher island layers and fog and drizzle occur. The sea is very rough and cool, especially from August to October. The likelihood of bad weather is highest during these months.


The climate is tropical and warm with temperatures between 24-31 ° C. The rainy season lasts from December to May. However, the weather here can sometimes be better than in the dry season.


Around noon, values of approx. 25 ° C are reached, at night it often cools down to 9 ° C. A temperature drop of 1 ° C is calculated for every 200 meters of altitude. Most of the precipitation falls between November and April. Quito has a spring-like climate all year round.

Amazon lowlands:

The climate is generally humid, warm and rich in precipitation with temperatures around 23-26 ° C. The least rainfall occurs between October and December.

The time difference to Ecuador compared to Central European Time (CET) is - 6 hours.

During summer time, the time difference from Germany to Ecuador is - 7 hours.

The Galapagos Islands are an hour further west, so the time difference is - 1 hour compared to Ecuador.

Language in Galapagos

The official language in Ecuador is Spanish. The indigenous people of the highlands speak the ancient Inca language Quetchua among themselves, and many different tribal languages are also spoken in the Amazon region.

When entering Ecuador, you must present a passport that is valid for at least six months (and undamaged).

You do not need a visa if you are entering for tourist purposes for a period of up to 90 days. It is recommended to have identification documents or a copy including an entry stamp with you.
