Arusha National Park sits between the peaks of Kilimanjaro and Meru and is an exceptionally beautiful area. The park has a variety of habitats, crater lakes where many waterfowl can be seen, highland mountain forest to the imposing summit of Mount Meru. The forests are home to a plethora of birds and other animals, such as the beautiful bushbuck, which can easily be seen in the steps between the old cedars, or the black and white colobus monkeys that can be seen among the branches.
The interesting geology of the area is reflected in the impressive views of the cinder cone and the cliffs leading to the summit of Meru. Throughout the park, you have the opportunity to observe nature at your own pace, to see different animals in their different habitats and to soak up some of the serenity of the environment. Those who climb the summit of the mountain will be rewarded with unparalleled views of the majestic Kilimanjaro and the Great Rift Valley. The Arusha National Park is a relatively small park with an area of 137 km ² and is located near the city of Arusha. The city and the park got its name from the people of Warusha, who traditionally lived in the area. Since the park also overlapped with areas where the Maasai lived mainly, the Maasai were also the namesake of most place names in the park. The park has several vegetation zones and places with different species: on the lakes are water birds, near the water there are waterbuck and reedbuck, in the forest areas of shy bushbuck and duiker. In this wide range of habitats almost 400 species of birds have been observed in the park. Some of them are migratory and sighted between October and April, others are permanent inhabitants of the forests.
Let yourself be carried away to Arusha, the gateway to the world famous wildlife sanctuaries of Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara, one of the oldest cities in Tanzania. From a tiny German garrison in 1900, Arusha became the capital of Tanzania with around 400,000 inhabitants. Arusha is located in the center of Africa between the Cape and Cairo on the Great North Road and is the administrative center of the East African Community, which is composed of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
